Pathology from Olfactory Neuroblastoma. Histopathological images from the olfactory neuroblastoma (esthesioneuroblastoma) removed from our proband at surgery. Images shown are from the tumor tissue resected from the right frontal nasal sinus. Panel A shows a nest of tumor cells with the characteristic “salt and pepper” appearance (hematoxylin and eosin staining 40x). Panel B shows intense immunohistochemical staining for synaptophysin supporting the diagnosis of neuroblastoma (20x). Several other immunostains were done but not shown. Tumor cells were also positive for chromogranin, and negative for CAM 5.2, EMA, and CD45; GFAP is essentially negative in the matrix
